5 Benefits of a Silk Pillowcase

We often tell our girlfriends after bailing on a fun night out, “thanks, but I need my beauty sleep.”

We put so much emphasis on “pre-beauty sleep”: glitter face masks, the newest Essie nail polish, reruns of Grey’s Anatomy and pints of ice cream. (All legit self-care methods, BTW.) But what happens when it’s lights out?

Silk pillowcases are the latest beauty trend we should be marking as high priority for many reasons

1. It can prevent breakouts.

Time to toss those cotton cases out, sister! Cotton actually draws in moisture from your hair and face, causing major skin irritation, especially if you’re someone who always sleeps on their stomach. Because silk is such a smooth material, when your face glides against it throughout the night, it doesn’t get irritated. No irritation = no acne breakouts. Instead, your skin breathes better and in the morning you actually wake up feeling “fresh faced”.

2. It helps reduce wrinkles.

Sure, you can spend $100 on an anti-aging night cream, but you can also purchase a silk pillow for less than that and achieve similar results. Because of its natural, chemical-free composition, resting your face on silk can prevent friction and crinkles from creating fine lines and wrinkles. Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up without any pillow marks for once?

3. It’s good for your hair, too.

I’m sure your hairdresser has mentioned this before: sleeping on silk pillowcases can prevent frizzy hair. If you drop dough for a nice blow-out, you’d want it to last as long as possible. Silk pillowcases work wonders for all kinds of hair types and textures as they keep the cuticle layer of the hair intact. No static and no split ends. A total game changer.

4. It’s hypoallergenic.

Good news for allergy sufferers! The fibers in silk have a natural resistance to dust mites, mold and other allergens. You can go the extra mile and get a pillow filled with silk fibers instead of feathers to reduce any dust or dander collection. Silk contains a protein called sericin, which reduces the possibility of an allergic reaction, so if you’re someone with itchy skin conditions like eczema, a silk pillowcase will keep you from having flare ups.

5. It's luxurious AF.

The price is worth the beauty benefits. So throw a couple on your bed and it’ll feel like you’re staying in the presidential suite at the Four Seasons.

Sleep well!
